Coleus forskohlii is a montane specie occurring between the latitude 310 N 300 S in palaeotropic regions. It is found growing in South Africa, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bhutan and China. In India, this plant in observed to grow over a wide geographic range between the latitude 80 and 310 N in subtropical and warm temperate climates of the lesser Himalayas from Shimala eastward to Bhutan and on the hills of central India.

    The specie is more around 1400m to 1500m in Kumaon and adjoining Northwest parts of Nepal. The specie prefers arid to semi and habitat. It inhabits sun exposed dry hill slopes, plateaus and shallow soil deposits of gorges, ridges, boulders, rocky and gravelly surfaces, occurs amidst short grasses in 2 cm to 15 cm deep soil with deficient organic matter

   One of the overlooked benefits of forskolin includes its stimulation of digestive enzymes, which can allow individuals to digest and assimilate their food better. It has been shown to increase nutrient absorption in the small intestine. Forskolin has been shown to be safe and effective and has a great amount of potential as a sports supplement. As with most dietary supplements, more human research is needed but the future looks bright for this compound.
