Detailed Product Description
This is a genuinely old maindoor from Tamil Nadu, in south India. The door is estimated to be about80-90 years old. The Outer frame of the door and all the carvings arein Rosewood, which is a very rare and exotic wood. The carved panel hasequisite workmanship and is itself a very valuable item, being Rosewoodmakes it even more valuable.
The door has double shutters which are made ofJackwood, a local wood found in southern India and Sri Lanka. The doorhas been restore completely and will last many years. It can beinstalled easily into a new or existing home.
The door is in excellent condition. All thecarvings are intact. The wood is beautifully seasoned, since its almosta century old.
The carvings of the door panel are oftraditionalIindian style. The two swans and parrots are symbols ofprosperity. The "pot" around which the two parrots are perched iscalled "annapachi", literally meaning - grain vessel. It is consideredholy and is a symbol of good harvest.
The door comes from an affluent landlord in rural Tamil Nadu, South India.
